The first prototype of Velosolex
is completed in 1941.
It has an engine of 38 cm³ on a part cycles bicycle man with
closed framework. The color is already the black with nets gold.
The version which was selected for the
preproduction, and which will be preserved for the first models, has
a different framework. It is made open of a single tube in
swan
neck.
After a few years of tests and development, the first Solex
model come
on the market in 1946. The ccm of
the engine is increased to 45
cm³ to deliver a power of 0,4 CV to 2000 tr/min..
The following years, some improvements
will be
carried out conerning the framwork. The most important modification
occurs in 1951
with the addition of a central crutch and a traction lever of the
engine fixed on the cylinder head.
From 1954,
the
models are defined by numbers, as the 330
which differs from its
predecessor by a buckled plate luggage stand and an engine of a cubic
capacity carried with 49 cm³. The power is now 0,5 CV.
The model 660
is selled in 1956.
It is equipped with a new whole tallies with footrest and the design of
the motorization part changes slightly : the tank and the
protection of the magnetic wheel are ribbed and the
headlight integrated into the hooding of the engine.
In 1957 the
1010
arrive on the market. The framework is identical to that of the 660 but
the engine was worked over again : new piston unit –
rolls, enlarging of the air filter and exhaust in a big S.
The Solex 1010 are equipped into 1959
with wheel with 550 and will take the designation 1400.
The new dimension of tire 1 ¾ X 19 will remain standard
until the last 3800.
In 1960,
the
automatic clutch fact are appearance on the model 1700.
The cooling of
the engine necessary at this time when the motor is on without moving is
carried out by air pushed by means of wings positioned on the magnetic
wheel. The capacity of the tank is increased to 1,4 liters.
The S2200
is produced
since 1961.
It is equipped with a system of suppression and its power
engine
is increased by 0,5 to 0,7 CV.
The S3300
has the 3rd
model of framework, from now on rectangular and out of flanged and
welded sheet. It is presented at the public in 1964.
The mudguards before and back remain those of an S 2200.
The S3800
of 1966
is an S 3300 with an engine giving a little more couple. The mudguards
are ribbed on each side and the filter air carries a label S 3800
writing in white on red bottom.
For the first time in the history of
Solex, this
model is available in a dress blue and red for the S 3800
" luxe", and in white for the S 3800
" super luxe ". The tires are with white
sides.
The S 3800 will be produced until 1988
and will
undergo evolutions like the addition of an accelerator, handles right
and reflectors.
In 1971, Solex
produces the 5000
in parallel with the
S3800. It is a version equipped with small
wheels of 16 inches, mudguards out of stainless steel and of a raised
handlebar. It is available in blue, yellow, orange and white. The tank
and the magnetic flying mask are on all the white plastic versions.
The 5000 also exists in foldable
version, Plisolex.
It is equipped with a hinge on the central beam of the framework which
makes it possible to fold up it and with an engine quickly dismountable.
